Teaching since: 2015
I’m passionate about how understanding our bodies in and through space can help us connect to ourselves and our communities more deeply. I believe awareness of our body and breath in motion/stillness creates a playground to enjoy clarity in our minds, compassion in our hearts, and a sincere connection to our bodies.
The power of human connection has been a huge influence on my path. I’m from South Africa and was in my formative years as the nation was coming out of Apartheid. I experienced transition, unity and love on a grand scale, and have always been inspired by the Zulu philosophy of ‘ubuntu’. Part of its message is that a person is a person through other people. This is what drew me to teaching in South Africa and then in Europe, Asia, North America - lecturing at The University of Hong Kong, training local teachers and staff in post-conflict Sri Lanka, designing courses at Stanford University and co-leading a YA-certified 200hr YTT have been a few of my adventures.
My yoga journey:
The practice of yoga has been a thread through these experiences. My first yoga class was in 2005. I was, and am, drawn to its ability to open us up to ourselves and, by extension, others.
Strength, mobility, breath, compassion and focus can help us in most aspects of our lives. The greatest joy is sharing this through teaching yoga. I believe in its potential to bring out the best in people and communities.
I teach multiple styles of yoga including, Vinyasa, ACROVINYASA, Yin and Yin/yang. Regardless of style, my classes aim to deepen the connection we have with ourselves and others. My Vinyasa classes often include strong, dynamic flows, my ACROVINYASA classes are playful and uplifting and my Yin classes are grounding and centering.
